OUR STAFF

Sandy Schuette, Director of Harbor Weight Loss Institute, has a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Marygrove College in Detroit, MI. She holds a dual certification as a Lifestyle Counselor in both weight and stress management through the American Association of Lifestyle Counselors, based in Dallas, TX. Thirty years ago, Sandy lost 25 lbs. and has successfully kept that weight off by making lifestyle changes that she continues to practice on a day to day basis. Her compassion and intimate understanding of issues surrounding unwanted weight make her an exceptional source of support and motivation for all of her clients. Sandy has worked in the weight management field for over 18 years and has assisted over 1,000 clients in the Dane County area find alternatives to emotional eating.

 



     
Amy Karas is one of Harbor's Regsitered Dietitian.  She holds a Nutritional Science degree with an emphasis in Dietetics from UW Madison. She comes to Harbor with experience in both the food service industry as well as inpatient and outpatient dietetics. Over the past two years she has focused on children’s nutrition and in 2006 started a hot lunch program for an elementary school in Janesville, WI, which she currently runs. After having two children Amy has personally lost 25 lbs and continues to successfully keep it off. She is very excited to be a part of Harbor Weight Loss Institute and really enjoys working with clients on an individual basis to provide them with the help and support they need to achieve a healthy lifestyle through behavioral changes rather than through a quick fix diet approach.

 


 

Ariel Y. Shibilski has been working with the Harbor Weight Loss Program since 2007.  She earned her bachelors degree in neuroscience in 2000.  She worked within the psychology department at the University of Wisconsin - Madison for five years before completing her Masters of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Edgewood College.  She is certified as a personal trainer by the American Council on Exercise and is certified as a health coach by the National Soceity of Health Coaches.  She is currently completing her doctorate in health psychology and behavioral medicine.

Ariel's philosophy of therapy involves a balance of compassion and a realistic look at what it takes to accomplish change.  She specializes in working with obesity, fitness, and health related goals.  She also addresses a variety of other issues within therapy including relationship issues, depression, anxiety, grief, and parenting.
Your experience in therapy will involve an integration of talk therapy, development of coping skills, neuroscience based techniques, and suggestions on how your diet and overall health may be affecting your emotional well-being.

 


 

Nancy L. Goyings, R.D., M.S. graduated from the university of California at Davis with her bachelors degree in Dietetics.  She completed her dietetic internship at UW-Hospital and Clinics.  Nancy received her masters degree in Community Nutrition from UW-Madison.  She was a Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year for Wisconsin in 1995.

Prior to joining the nutrition staff at Harbor Wellness Center, Nancy worked for many years as an outpatient nutritionist for UW-Hospital.  Nancy spent most of her time there helping patients with a wide variety of nutritional issues including weight management, heart healthy eating, and meal-planning for diabetes.  Nancy led many weight management groups and healthy eating workshops.

Nancy also spent seven years as a researcher and nutrition educator at the Madison Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Clinical Research Center.  Nancy led groups at the WHI and helped participants to follow the study diet (low-fat, high in fruits, vegetables, and grains).  Nancy  taught many cooking and baking workshops during her years at the WHI.

Nancy specializes in weight management, heart healthy eating, and dietary approaches for diabetes.  Nancy enjoys working with people of all ages towards healthier eating goals.  She especially enjoys helping clients modify their own recipes to meet their specific nutrition needs.

 


 

Harbor Weight Loss Institute capitalizes on its relationship with Harbor Athletic Club by using its many highly qualified Personal Trainers. These trainers have tremendous experience in working with all populations. Personal Trainers at Harbor Athletic Club are required to continue their education on a regular basis. Additionally, before being allowed to work with Weight Loss Institute clients, Harbor’s trainers are required to attend seminars specifically focused on the emotional reasons for overeating. It is this additional training that sets Harbor’s trainers above most other weight loss trainers. Harbor Weight Loss Institute will confidently
