Strengthening the Core
Lengthening the Body
Pronounced
''Pul-lat-tees,'' these core training exercises have gained
popularity with both young and old, fit and not-so-fit,
football players and dancers. Pilates is commonly used
in a rehab setting. I can say with confidence that EVERYONE
needs pilates. The goal is to strengthen the deep-down
muscles that support the spine and pelvis. Not only that,
but you also lengthen the body and improve posture. Pilates
gives you the chance to feel much more grounded. Developing
strong core muscles, including the front, back, and sides
of your ''powerhouse'' can contribute to a better quality
of life. By re-teaching the body to use core muscles,
misalignments and weaknesses are corrected. The precise,
controlled movements lead to greater strength, flexibility,
and coordination.
