Train for Life
For over 35 years we have made sure that we are always growing and improving while staying true to the original mission of Harbor. Paul and Francine Ernst founded Harbor Athletic Club in 1984, and in 2010 their children Sara, John, and Melissa along with Todd Passini transitioned into the ownership role. Paul and Francine’s founding vision continues to guide us as we grow and update our programming, facility and services.
We have not only invested in updating our facilities and appearance, but also our programing, training and mission. Our mission has always been to provide a welcoming place for people to pursue their fitness goals. From a 10-court racquetball club to an 80,000 square foot full-service club, Harbor might look different than it did in 1984, but our heart is still the same.
We continue to provide a place for members of all ages to train for life. We want you to train for that excursion on your family vacation, keep up with your kids and grandkids, take long walks with your loved ones, play your favorite sport with friends, or ride bikes to the farmers market in the summer. Your goals may include training for a marathon, triathlon or college athletics, reduce stress, or simply being able to stand up straight. Whatever your goal is, we want to support you.
We will not promote working out as a punishment, and we won’t “motivate” you to burn calories or to work on your summer bod. Being healthy is much more than that. We are aware of the diet culture that has permeated our everyday lives, and we know that the fitness industry, us included, has been part of the problem for a long time. To eliminate diet culture from our mission we have taken steps to change wording in our literature and marketing, to train our instructors, and to restructure programming. Our hope is to make your health, mind and body, a priority. We want everyone to find something they love and actually want to do. For you, maybe it will be a yoga class or personal training. For someone else it may be a HIIT class or swimming. Whatever you choose, do it because you enjoy it, not because you have to. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve you and we feel honored to be part of your health and wellness journey. Welcome to the Harbor family!
