Mike Slater has been teaching hatha yoga since 1995, and was certified by the late Roger Eischens, founder of Mound Street Yoga and student of BKS Iyengar. Eischens Yoga is rooted in the Iyengar tradition, with alignment and integrity of the poses at its core. Eischens Yoga helps students learn to sense its profound effects on the energy flow of the body, to practice yoga in accordance with their own constitutional type, and to balance their bodies and their energy flow. The class involves the use of props to bring integrity and a refined understanding of each pose, and how to adapt it to one’s ability and constitution. Eischens Yoga is an excellent complement for athletes in training, as well as therapeutic for office workers. Mike began practicing meditation and asana in 1974, found his first Iyengar yoga class in 1977, and developed a more complete hatha practice under Roger Eischen’s guidance. Mike’s focus is to help others learn alignment, resistance and the actions within asana, so that integrity is developed and maintained in any pose, and that energy flow is unhindered and balanced. Mike incorporates tactile response, creative use of props and occasional partner work to help refine understanding of action and resistance in a pose. Mike’s classes are energetically stimulating, transformative, and playfully serious. Sunrise Yoga is a general class, teaching to all levels, and welcomes beginners.
