Olympic Fun at Summer Camp- week 8 and 9

The last two weeks at camp we have had an Olympic Theme- because so much was involved in this Olympic Fun we couldn’t fit it in only one week! The first week we learned all about the history of the Olympics and the different events. The Olympics are all about individual AND team sports so we did activities focused around both the individual campers and the entire team of campers. We cheered each other on and all of the campers showed great sportsmanship.  The second week of Olympics we did streamer races, an obstacle course, soccer and javelin throw! All campers were rewarded with medals of accomplishment.

Our field trip both weeks took us to Vitense Golf Land. We played the Wisconsin mini golf course the first week and the California course the second. Congrats to two of our campers- Fiona and Helena- for getting a hole in one! After mini golf, all the campers got to do one extra activity. Most campers picked Water Wars which was such a blast to watch! It also helped us cool off a bit.

We had a very special guest during week 1. Former Olympian and Harbor yoga instructor Karen Rigsby joined us. She won two Olympic medals for rowing in 1996 and 2000. She brought her medals in to show us! It was wonderful hearing her journey and seeing a REAL Olympic medal!!!

Did you know that Tuesday, August 3rd was national Watermelon eating day? Well Brittany our camp director did! Naturally our day revolved around this refreshing and tasty fruit.  Not only did we eat watermelon all day, we also did watermelon races, and even exploded a watermelon using rubberbands.

On Friday, campers walked over to Marshall Park where they rented paddleboards and kakyaks.  It was fun way to end our Harbor Olympic week.
